Chris Freund founded Mekong Capital in 2001 and is a Partner.
As a Deal Leader, Chris is currently responsible for long-term success of the investments in MobileWorld, An Giang Plant Protection, and FPT Corporation. Chris is also a member of the Board of Directors of MobileWorld and the Advisory Board of An Giang Plant Protection. Chris has been involved in most of Mekong Capital's investments and divestments since the establishment of the firm. Chris is a member of Mekong Capital's Management Committee, Investment Recommendation Committee and Board of Directors. Chris specializes in companies focused on marketing, distribution and retail. Chris also has extensive experience leading all investment stages from investment appraisal and implementation, value creation and exit.
Chris Freund originally moved to Vietnam in 1994 and has 20 years of direct investment management experience, 17 of which were in Vietnam. Prior to forming Mekong Capital in 2001, Chris Freund was a Vice President and Portfolio Manager with Templeton Asset Management, Ltd., the emerging markets arm of the Franklin/Templeton Group. He worked for Templeton in Vietnam from early 1995 until mid-1998, and Templeton in Singapore from June 1998 to March 2001, where he focused on Vietnam, South Korea, Taiwan and Israel.
Chris is also a co-founder of Navigos Group, owner of VietnamWorks.com and Navigos Search, the largest recruitment services firm in Vietnam. Navigos Group was sold in a trade sale to a Japanese recruitment services firm, En-Japan, in April 2013.
