Chris Freund - Managing Partner
Chris Freund is the founder and Managing Partner of Mekong Capital. As the Managing Partner, Chris is accountable for the success of Mekong Capital, each fund managed by Mekong Capital and each investment made by Mekong Capital. Chris is also accountable that each of Mekong Capital’s team members are equipped and empowered to achieve extraordinary results, and work together as a team to fulfill our shared commitment that Mekong Capital achieves the most consistently high investment returns in Asia.

Chris Freund has 16 years of direct investment management experience, 13 of which were in Vietnam. Prior to forming Mekong Capital in 2001, Chris Freund was a Vice President and Portfolio Manager with Templeton Asset Management, Ltd., the emerging markets arm of the Franklin/Templeton Group. He worked for Templeton in Vietnam from early 1995 until mid-1998, where he screened, analyzed, and monitored private equity investments.

  Thomas F. Lanyi, CFA - Director
In Mekong Capital, the investment team reports directly to Dr. Thomas Lanyi on the deal sourcing, appraisal, and implementation process. As a Deal Partner, Thomas is currently directly accountable for the long-term success of investments in Masan Food, Minh Hoang, and Mobile World. Thomas is a member of Mekong Capital’s internal Management Committee. Thomas joined Mekong Capital in March 2008.

Dr. Thomas Lanyi has 9 years of direct investment management experience, most of which he gained working in Asia. He started his career in asset management with Singapore-based Templeton Asset Management Ltd in 2001, reporting directly to Group Executive Chairman and Emerging Markets pioneer, Dr. Mark Mobius. Thomas was solely responsible for strategic listed and unlisted investment opportunities in South East Asia, including Vietnam. As Executive Director, he also provided input at the fund level, including product development & investment strategy, communication & investor relations, and fund administration.

Prior to joining Mekong Capital, Thomas worked with Hanoi-based BIDV-Vietnam Partners Investment Management as a portfolio manager, successfully investing the firm’s first fund and significantly contributing to raising its second vehicle.

  Tran Thi Thu Hong - Director
As a Director of Post Investment in Mekong Capital, Tran Thi Thu Hong oversees all investment activities related to post investment, including ensuring that all investee companies set and achieve ambitious annual net profit targets. The investment team reports directly to her on post investment value creation activities for portfolio companies of the Funds. As a Deal Partner, Hong is currently accountable for the long term success of the investment in AA Corporation. She is also a member of Mekong Capital’s internal Management Committee. Hong joined Mekong Capital in September 2006.

Tran Thi Thu Hong was previously a Business Development Manager of IKEA, where she was in charge of creating a sourcing network in South East Asia, building up supplier’s competence and setting up business strategy. Before that she worked for IBM Indochina as a Procurement and Distribution Specialist.

  Pham Vu Thanh Giang - Senior Associate
As a Deal Partner, Pham Vu Thanh Giang is responsible for long-term success of investments in Digiworld, Phu Nhuan Jewelry (PNJ), Vietnam Australia International School (VAS) and International Consuming Products (ICP). She is also involved in appraising potential investments of Mekong Capital’s funds. Thanh Giang is the lead Deal Partner in the Ho Chi Minh City investment team, and is the mentor for most other members of the Ho Chi Minh City investment team. Thanh Giang joined Mekong Capital in January 2007.

Pham Vu Thanh Giang was previously an Account Executive at Aon Vietnam Ltd., a non-life insurance broker, and also a part of the Risk Management Accounts team.

  Ngo Thi Ngoc Anh - Senior Associate
As a Deal Partner, Ngo Thi Ngoc Anh has overall responsibility for the long-term success of MEF II’s investments in MK Smart and Golden Gate. She is also involved in appraising potential investments of Mekong Capital’s funds. She is also responsible for the overall effectiveness of implementation and deal structuring process within Mekong Capital. Ngoc Anh joined Mekong Capital in September 2007.

Ngo Thi Ngoc Anh was previously a management trainee with British American Tobacco Vietnam. Before that, she worked as a financial analyst with IDG Ventures.

  Nguyen Thi Dieu Thuy - Senior Associate
As a Deal Partner, Nguyen Thi Dieu Thuy overall responsibility is the long-term success of four investments in Goldsun, Nam Hoa, Ngo Han and Venture International (Vietnam) Joint Stock Company (VIVCO). She is also involved in appraising potential investments. Dieu Thuy joined Mekong Capital in November 2006.

Nguyen Thi Dieu Thuy was previously a Sales Manager for Vertu, a luxury mobile phone brand, with FPT Distribution Company, where she was in charge of the Hanoi market.

  Le Tuan – Senior Associate
As a Deal Partner, Le Tuan is accountable for the long-term success of three investments in Intresco, An Giang Plant Protection and Traphaco. Tuan is also responsible for performing quantitative analysis of Mekong Capital’s funds, including macro-economic analysis, sector research and certain company-specific research to assist with appraisals and pipeline development. Tuan joined Mekong Capital in February 2009.

Le Tuan previously worked for Macquarie Group in its New York office as an Investment Banking Analyst, where he was involved in a number of M&A and capital raising transactions. He was also part of the team tasked with managing Macquarie’s private equity investments in the U.S.

  Vu Thu Thuy, CPA – Senior Associate
As Deal Partner, Vu Thu Thuy is responsible for the long-term success of the investment in Lac Viet. Thuy is also responsible for assisting senior investment professionals in their research, analysis, and appraisal of investment opportunities for the firm’s funds. She is also involved in post-investment value-added work and fund research. Thu Thuy joined Mekong Capital in March 2010.

Vu Thu Thuy previously worked with Sankaty Advisors, LLC, a credit subsidiary of Bain Capital, LLC in Boston, MA, as a Senior Finance Associate. Thuy was primarily responsible for the analysis and financial reporting of investment activity and performance for multiple Credit Opportunities funds.

  Truong Ngoc Phung - Chief Empowerment Officer
Phung is responsible for empowering the Managing Partner to successfully lead Mekong Capital to continuously achieve extraordinary results and assisting the Managing Partner in all functions. Phung is based in Ho Chi Minh City.

Truong Ngoc Phung previously worked as an Investor Relations Assistant of Mekong Capital where she successfully supported tasks related to fund administration and fund reporting.

  Nguyen Thi Hong Trang – Associate
Nguyen Thi Hong Trang is responsible for performing analytical, financial and operational activities including macro-economic analysis, sector research and certain company-specific research to assist with appraisals and pipeline development. Hong Trang joined Mekong Capital in March 2009.

Nguyen Thi Hong Trang previously worked for Grant Thornton Vietnam as a Corporate Finance Assistant where she was responsible for analyzing market/industry and supporting a number of business valuation and fundraising projects. Hong Trang was in charge of the “Doing Business in Vietnam 2009” Guide which addressed the most common questions raised by investors when they consider investing in Vietnam.

 
Nguyen Thi Minh Thu – Associate
Nguyen Thi Minh Thu is responsible for assisting senior associates in all phases of investment including pre, post and exiting investments. She also participates in performing research, analytical, financial and operation activities for certain investments. Minh Thu joined Mekong Capital in February 2010.

Nguyen Thi Minh Thu previously worked at KPMG Vietnam for nearly four years, most recently as a Senior Auditor, where she was responsible for supervising audit team in a number of audit engagements regarding securities, fund management, manufacturing, and banking industries. She also performed some valuation projects for manufacturing clients.

 
Nghiem Thi Hai Ly – Associate
Nghiem Thi Hai Ly is responsible for assisting senior associates in all phases of investment including pre, post and exiting investments. She also participates in performing research, analytical, financial and operation activities for certain investments. Hai Ly joined Mekong Capital in July 2010.

Nghiem Thi Hai Ly previously worked at Ernst and Young Vietnam for more than four years, most recently as a Senior Consultant, where she specialized in financial due diligence, covering pre-acquisition diligences of different sectors such as banking, services and manufacturing.

  Ngo Dinh Thao Phuong – Assistant to Managing Partner
Ngo Dinh Thao Phuong is responsible for assisting the Managing Partner to maximize his efficiency and availability in order for him to achieve the results that add the most value to Mekong Capital by managing his time, schedule and fulfilling general duties. Thao Phuong joined Mekong Capital in January 2010.

Ngo Dinh Thao Phuong was previously an Administration Executive, where she responsible for tasks related to Mekong Capital’s front desk and assisting in other office management activities for Ho Chi Minh's office.

  Nguyen Phuoc Huong Thao – Assistant to Director
Nguyen Phuoc Huong Thao is responsible for assisting the Director in achieving his results, by handling his time management, maintaining his results tracking systems, and fulfilling other general duties. Thao joined Mekong Capital in November 2009.

Nguyen Phuoc Huong Thao was previously an Executive Assistant to the CEO of Saigon Premier Container Terminal in Ho Chi Minh City, where she assisted her superior in all major functions.


Finance Consulting Team

 
Do Thi Khanh Van – Senior Finance Consultant
Do Thi Khanh Van works closely with the funds’ investee companies to ensure that they meet excellent standards of financial management and reporting. Khanh Van joined Mekong Capital in September 2008.

Do Thi Khanh Van was previously a manager of the Research Department of FPT Securities, where she was in charge of appraising investment opportunities in companies specialized in Electricity, Oil & Gas, Real Estate and Garment industries. Prior to joining FPT Securities, she was an Auditor at Ernst & Young Vietnam for more than four years.

 
Nguyen Khanh Van, ACCA – Senior Finance Consultant
Nguyen Khanh Van works closely with the funds’ investee companies to ensure that they meet excellent standards of financial management and reporting. Nguyen Khanh Van joined Mekong Capital in September 2009.

Nguyen Khanh Van previously worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers Vietnam for three years as Senior Associate in Audit department and subsequently a Senior Consultant in Advisory department. She was involved in a number of audit engagements regarding manufacturing, service and banking industries. She also performed some financial due diligences and valuation projects for manufacturing clients.

 
Hoang Thi Thu Ha – Finance Consultant
Hoang Thi Thu Ha works closely with the funds’ investee companies to ensure that they meet excellent standards of financial management and reporting. Thu Ha joined Mekong Capital in July 2010.

Hoang Thi Thu Ha previously worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers (“PwC”) for four years, most recently as a Senior Auditor, where she was primarily responsible for supervising audit engagements regarding oil and gas, finance & banking, manufacturing, trading and services industries. She also performed due-diligence and agreed-upon-procedure projects for many PwC’s clients in diversified industries.
