Shareholders and senior management team

Mekong Capital is an employee-owned company, with full-time employees holding 65% of Mekong Capital's shares. The remaining shares are held primarily by individuals with a background in investment management, both in Vietnam and internationally.

Almost all of the most senior positions at Mekong Capital are filled by Vietnamese. This provides us an advantage in terms of building up relationships with Vietnamese companies, understanding the local market and culture, and leveraging the value of local networks.

Responsibilities of Mekong Capital as an Investment Manager

As an investment manager, Mekong Capital is a service provider to its funds and is responsible for the following on behalf of the funds that it manages:

  1. Identifying and screening potential investments;
  2. Appraising potential investments;
  3. Negotiating potential investments;
  4. Implementing investments;
  5. Monitoring investments after they have been made;
  6. Providing assistance to investee companies; and
  7. Eventually selling the investments.

Mekong Capital does not charge any fees to investee companies and has no other fee based businesses.

Development Plans

Mekong Capital strives for excellence in investment management and has no plans to expand into other financial services. For example, we currently have no intention to be in the securities business, corporate finance or provide any fee-based consulting services. This single-minded focus on investment management also helps to minimize risks associated with conflicts of interest.

We are not currently launching any new funds. We plan to launch Mekong Enterprise Fund III around the time that Mekong Enterprise Fund II is nearly fully invested, which is expected to occur in late 2008.

Mekong Capital is a member of the Vietnam Association of Financial Investors (VAFI), the American Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) in Ho Chi Minh City, the European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (EUROCHAM), the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (CANCHAM), the Emerging Markets Private Equity Association (EMPEA) and the Asian Corporate Governance Association.
