Revolutionary BSF solutions for sustainable feed & agriculture

Entobel is a biotechnology company specializing in the production of insect-based ingredients for animal feed, pet food, and organic fertilizers. Founded in 2013 by Belgian entrepreneurs Alexandre de Cater s and Gaëtan Crielaard, Entobel uses Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae to upcycle low-value biomass into high-quality protein, oil, and fertilizer products.

The company’s bioconversion model is rooted in sustainability and circular economy principles. By leveraging Vietnam’s tropical climate and abundant agricultural by-products, Entobel has developed a capital-efficient and scalable production system that addresses global challenges in food security, overfishing, and environmental degradation.

Entobel produces a range of insect-based ingredients derived from the Black Soldier Fly (BSF), designed to meet the nutritional and functional needs of the aquaculture, livestock, pet food, and agriculture sectors. These products are not only rich in essential nutrients but also offer unique health and environmental benefits.

Entobel’s products:

1. H-Meal (Insect Protein Meal)

2. H-Oil (Insect Oil)

  • Extracted from BSF larvae, this oil is rich in medium-chain fatty acids, particularly lauric acid, known for its antimicrobial properties.
  • Used in pet food and livestock feed as a sustainable alternative to traditional fats.
  • Supports immune function and energy metabolism in animals.

3. H-Ferti (Insect Frass)

  • Rich in nutrients and beneficial microorganisms that promote soil health and plant growth.
  • Reduces reliance on chemical fertilizers, lowering operational costs and environmental impact for farmers.

As of 2025, Entobel operates one R&D center and one industrial-scale production facility in Vietnam:

  • Dong Nai Plant: Operational since 2019, with a capacity of 1,000 MT of insect meal annually. It also serves as the company’s R&D center.
  • Vung Tau Plant: Commissioned in 2023, this is Asia’s largest insect protein facility, with an annual capacity of 10,000 MT. It features 50 levels of vertical rearing, robotics, and advanced data analytics, making it the most CAPEX-efficient BSF facility globally.

Entobel employs over 200 people and has built a strong commercial track record with a growing base of blue-chip customers such as Vinh Hoan. The company is also preparing for regional expansion, including new facilities in Indonesia

Since Mekong Capital’s investment in 2022 as Series B funding via Mekong Enterprise Fund IV, Entobel has undergone rapid and strategic expansion:

  • Expanded production capacity. Entobel’s production capacity has increased tenfold, positioning it as a leader in sustainable insect protein production. It now ranks among the top three global insect protein producers by factory capacity, alongside InnovaFeed and Enorm.
  • Improved capital efficiency. Entobel boasts the lowest capital expenditure per ton produced, driven by significant scaling and operational enhancements.

Entobel is committed to becoming the world’s lowest-cost producer of insect protein. Its journey reflects a powerful combination of bold vision, continuous innovation, and disciplined execution.
